Photography has been a big part of my life for so long now. It may have started out as a shared interest with my dad and a way to capture those important moments in life but it has become so much more. To me now photographs, my photographs, feel like the purest form of expression, a representation of how I see the world – my point of view. At the same time, I view it as a valuable tool with which to make a difference to the world. Ever since my early teens I have been fascinated by the way that photography itself can covey meaning and representation of a specific mind’s expression. It can manipulate, stimulate, emote and persuade, by presenting the world, in all its hidden depths and yet, it can also allow different people to find their own interpretations.
In my own lifetime I strive to stamp my own mark, to make a difference through imagery. I hope to leave my audience with a tribute to other cultures, introducing others to the multi-faceted planet that we all inhabit and share, and allowing them an understanding of our world. I draw inspiration from influences as diverse as Henri Cartier-Bresson, Francesca Woodman, Sebastião Salgado and Lee Miller and my work explores the many variations that are manufactured from both these traditional and modern dialogues.
Like the meaning of my name, Lauren, I am fierce in believing and striving for what I want in life and I hope that the joy and meaning that I get from my art are apparent to others in the content of my work.
I am currently in my second year of studying BA Photography at Plymouth College of Art.
